Charles grew up on the east coast and has been an avid artist all his life. He enjoys photography, painting and drawing. He learned photography 30 years ago as a Photographer’s Mate in the US Navy. He has recently moved to Ogden and is immersing himself in the local art community.
Charles prefers to refer to his approach as a craft rather than a technique. Taking his time to use manual camera settings while getting in close to his subject matter. Using shorter focal length lenses, in-camera cropping and natural light, he captures his subjects in nature as they are, never touching or staging any objects in his photographs. What you see in his photographs is exactly what was seen through the eyepiece, connecting you directly to his subject.
Charles finds beauty in the textures and colors of decaying man-made creations. Letting them tell their story quietly through his photographs as time slowly removes them from our memories.
